Do you need prescription loupes?

If you wear glasses to see clearly up close or at a distance, your loupes need to correct for it too. You have three options:

Prescription built into your loupes

Your correction is made into the loupe lenses themselves, so you see sharply through one pair with no glasses underneath. This is the most comfortable option for clinicians who wear glasses all day.

Contact lenses with standard loupes

If you already wear contacts comfortably, standard loupes may be all you need. Many dental students start this way.

Loupes over your glasses

Wearing loupes over prescription glasses adds weight and moves the optics away from your eyes, which narrows your field of view. We generally do not recommend it for all-day clinical work.

What prescriptions can you build?

We build single-vision, astigmatism, bifocal and progressive prescriptions. Every situation is different, so our licensed opticians review each prescription and decide the right lens design for your eyes, your frame and your working distance before we build anything.

Because every lens is custom-made, single vision is +$200 and other prescription types are quoted individually. We confirm the price with you before we start.

Which frames take a prescription?

ZenFlex is our best frame for prescription loupes. Side Shield takes many prescriptions, and our opticians will tell you if yours is a fit. The Sport frame does not take prescription lenses.

How ordering with a prescription works

  1. Choose your loupes. Pick TTL HD or ErgoHD, your magnification and your frame.
  2. Add prescription lenses at checkout.
  3. Send us your prescription. Text or email a photo of it, or give us your eye doctor's details and we will call them.
  4. Our opticians review it and confirm the lens design and price with you before we build. Your loupes ship from Los Angeles in 1–2 weeks.

Need your pupillary distance? Use our free PD and working distance guide.

What happens when your prescription changes?

Send us your new prescription and we update the lenses in your SureOptix loupes. Updates cost $200–$600, depending on your prescription, the lens type and your frame. You keep the same loupes, fitted to your new eyes.

Why dentists choose SureOptix

SureOptix started when friends of ours, practicing dentists, were struggling to find good loupes. They were paying extremely high prices and getting poor customer service. We fixed their loupes ourselves, saw how often dentists were being overcharged, and started SureOptix in 2020, building on more than 35 years in the optical business.

Every pair is made by hand in our Los Angeles workshop by a small team, not passed between a sales rep, a distributor and an overseas factory. Fewer hands means tighter quality control, more personal fitting and fewer mistakes, and you deal directly with the licensed opticians who build your loupes.
