What makes a great Headlight?

There are many factors to consider when choosing the right dental loupes head light for yourself. You want to make sure your headlight can achieve everything you need it to do while also, and most importantly, be as comfortable as possible. As a Dentist you're going to be using your headlight almost everyday right? You want to make sure your headlight works seamlessly into your workflow.

Here are 5 point's to take into consideration when selecting the best dental Headlight you can find.

1. Weight

By far the most important detail when choosing a headlight is its weight. You could find the most impressive pair of loupes you've ever seen, but none of its features would matter if it is too heavy. Dentists have a high occupational risk of neck disorders. Generally you want the lightest weight you can find, but what could be comfortable varies from person to person.

2. Battery

As a dental professional, you want a headlight that is reliable which is why battery life is very important. There are two types of batteries in this regard: Wired headlights and Wireless Headlights. With wired headlights, you have the benefit of never having to worry about a battery dying on you. The trade off here is the jumble of wires you're going to have to manage throughout the day as you see you're patients. On the other hand you have the wireless variety. These lights are often easily manageable and interchangeable with the trade off of needing to be charged.

3. Light Intensity

This point depends entirely on the person and their preferences. Generally, you would want a light that has at least an output of 40,000 LUX or stronger. Remember, as a professional you want to make sure you can have as clear a view as possible so don't cheap out on light intensity.

4. Brightness Control

Not every procedure requires the same amount of brightness, and some people won't need things to be that bright at all. A good headlight should give you the option to dim the light when ever necessary.

5. Beam Color

There are two types of light you should expect to see with headlights.

5500K: A bright, natural white light will illuminate very fine details and will help with harder to see areas such as the second molars.

4500K: This produces a much warmer light that is less stressful on the eyes. The light becomes less reflective and is especially great for anyone who's eyes get strained with the bright white light.
